Who Is Maria Britze and What Does She Do?
My name is Maria Britze from Bologna, Italy. I was born and grew up in Germany but I’m in Italy now. I’m a Design Stage Localization, Linguist, and Graphic Designer at Upwork, and also available on LinkedIn. Throughout middle school to college, I was an average student in every subject, but I loved reading and writing; hence it finally led me to be a permanent content writer.
When I was in my 1st year of pre-medical, I was used to watching videos about freelancing, different skills, and how people are making big earnings across the world via freelancing. Let my journey be your inspiration, let it be your confirmation.
People will always have doubts, not because they don’t want to believe in you, but because they’re scared of the unknown. Rather than emulating you by taking a leap of faith, they will choose to criticize your bravery. Don’t listen to them, start your own business, and quit your 9 to 5 whenever you‘re ready. Work from wherever you want and take your customers with you.
If they ask you “How are you going to have a career like that?” tell them our careers are independent and online. Leave haters behind, believe in your dreams, skill up, push through the noise, and soon you‘ll be sharing your success story. Bravo!
How and Where Did Maria Britze Start Freelancing?
All beginnings are difficult, and of course, I found out the hard way. In the infancy of my freelance career, I didn‘t know where my so-called failures would lead me. Right after dropping out of middle school, I found work at a graphic design agency where I gained valuable practical skills. It was also there I learned firsthand what it was like to work in a toxic environment.
People said to me “You’re a quitter who hopped from one job to another”, It didn’t matter to me.
I changed jobs eleven times in five years. From executive assistant to a cleaning lady, barmaid, market vendor, and even assembly line work, I did anything I could get my hands on. With the wide range of experience I gained from all of those jobs, I learned how to work, how to serve, and how having the right attitude always pays even when there’s no one watching.
No one understood me, they said “She just wants to have fun, she clearly has no focus”. They didn’t know that those numerous jobs I did gave me the opportunity to travel, and while traveling to over 20 countries, I learned so much. Perhaps the most valuable thing I learned was adaptability and people skills. There were so many times I traveled to no man’s land, and I had to mingle with strangers and deal with the complexities of a new language.
Always in love with my creative side, I decided to study art in the Netherlands. It was there I realized that anyone can make art, but not everyone can become a creative problem solver. Creative problem-solving is one of the most sought-after skills on the market, and that’s exactly what I learned in those 4 years. As time went by, I started to take my freelance career on Upwork a little more seriously.
Back in 2018, working from home was not that common yet, so every time I tried doing things virtually they called me lazy and said I just wanted to stay at home.
The struggle was real as I wasn’t only lacking motivation from my peers, but also the resources to put my dreams into action. For so long it felt like I was alone in my idea of making remote work possible, so many times I asked myself “is this even real work”, It took courage, dedication, self-confidence, and a huge sense of responsibility to keep pushing on.
Soon enough, I got a full-time telecommuting job, It wasn‘t a dream job, but it was remote. This gave me the confirmation I needed, I finally knew for good that I was on the right path. And here I am today.
What Does Maria Britze Recommend to Newbies/Struggers For Motivation?
I would like to recommend those who are newbies or strugglers in their freelancing career;
“Explore opportunities, no matter the results. Experiment without fear. Fail. Get up. Fail again. If you’re serious about learning or advancing your career, minimize the consequences of failure. Embrace failure. Make failure your hobby.”

To Whom and Why Did Maria Britze Credit Her Success To?
Actually and unfortunately, I couldn’t ask anybody for help. I don’t have rich parents. I didn’t get bank credit. I’ve built my business from scratch. From ZERO. Blood, sweat, and tears. Literally, plenty of tears. That’s the point. Nobody can invest the work for you. YOU have to do it.
For a welcoming and friendly, I would like to thank Mubashir Ahmad to give me the opportunity to grace my short success story for your inspiration on his interactive blog Mubashir Talks. I wish him all the best with a good spirit. Bravo!
